Spring cleaning your Instant appliances

#SpringCleaning your Instant Appliances

Hello first day of Spring!

Today (20th March) marks the Spring Equinox – the day when the sun crosses the equator and begins heading North to start warming up the UK… yes! Finally, we can start to say goodbye to the cold, darker weather, and look forward to brighter, spring days ahead. Three cheers to that!

Fun fact: According to Folklore, you can stand a raw egg on its end on the equinox…. We’re not sure if this is true or not, but if you’re getting eggs out the cupboard, then why not give this recipe a try.

With the start of spring, triggers the annual task of hashtag #SpringCleaning! From clearing out the back of those drawers you never go into, to dusting the hard-to-reach top of cupboards. For many households it is the time to clean, dust, hoover and wipe every inch of the house, so don’t forget your appliances too!

Whether you have an Instant Pot or a Vortex Air Fryer, we suggest you clean these after every use… such as washing the stainless-steel inner pot & cleaning the sealing ring of your Instant Pot or wiping the frying drawer and removable tray of your Air Fryer to remove any grease and crumbs. However, there are other elements of your appliance that can be cleaned that you may not know about… take a read below of exactly how to clean your Instant Appliance completely!

Vortex Air Fryer

Always unplug your Air Fryer and let it cool to room temperature before cleaning.

The Air Fryer Basket can be cleaned with a sponge or cloth and warm, soapy water. You should not immerse the basket in water or any other liquid or put it in the dishwasher.

To remove baked-on grease or any tough food residue, use a mixture of bicarb soda and vinegar, and wipe clean with damp cloth. For stubborn stains, allow the mixture to sit on the affected area for a few minutes, before wiping clean. Once all food debris has been removed, allow to dry completely before using again or storing.

You can clean the Cooking Tray either in the dishwasher or by hand. The cooking tray has non-stick coating, so to avoid damaging this only use a non-abrasive cleaner such as Scrub Daddy with warm soapy water.

The Exterior of your Air Fryer can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and wiped dry.

Instant Pot

Prior to cleaning, ensure the cooker is unplugged and has cooled down.

Both the Stainless-Steel Inner Pot & Steam Rack of your Instant Pot are made of sturdy, food-grade stainless steel (304 – 18/8) so can be cleaned either by hand, or in the dishwasher.

Should the inner pot develop bluey water stains, adding 1 cup of white vinegar to the inner pot and should do the trick. Leave it for 5 minutes, then simply rinse out. You can also use a non-abrasive cleaner such as Scrub Daddy with warm soapy water to bring back the original shine.

The Instant Pot Lid is dishwasher safe, but it is best to position this on the top rack. We also suggest removing the sealing ring and anti-block shield when putting in the dishwasher, so that the lid may be thoroughly cleaned. One way to prevent the lid from retaining smells is to store this upside down on the pot until it has completely dried, or alternatively have a separate silicone ring for sweet and savoury dishes.  Be sure to check the steam release valve and float valve are clear and back in position properly after cleaning.

The Anti-block Shield underneath the lid should be removed and cleaned after each use, especially after you have cooked foods that may splatter. To remove, push the side of the anti-block shield using your thumb towards the lid rim and lift. It may take a little effort, but the anti-block shield should pop out. Once removed, this can be washed in warm, soapy water, then rinsed and wiped dry with a soft cloth. Once dry, position the anti-block shield in place and push down to reattach.

The Sealing ring is made of high-quality, heat-resistant silicone that can be hand-washed with soapy water or placed in the dishwasher. Allow the ring to dry completely before inserting back into the lid. Make sure it is securely in place before you start cooking.

The sealing ring is critical in the functioning of your cooker, so you should inspect it carefully after it is washed. Should there be any signs of cracking or other damage, its time to replace the sealing ring with a new one. Genuine Instant Pot® sealing rings are available to buy here. In most cases, sealing rings will last for 12-18 months before needing replacing.

As silicone may pick-up food smells during cooking you may wish to have one sealing ring for savoury and another for sweet foods.

The Condensation Collector on the back of your Instant Pot is removable and should be hand washed periodically.  Allow to dry before replacing.

The Exterior of your Instant Pot can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and wiped dry.
